The Art of Hibernation is a compilation album featuring a mix of both established and up-and-coming artists from Brisbane’s inner-south side, who’ve recorded work during the 2020 COVID19 shutdown.
The 12 tracks represent a gloriously diverse range of genres and subcultures bubbling up out of the musical ecosystem of the Gabba Ward, which covers the suburbs of Dutton Park, Highgate Hill, Kangaroo Point, South Brisbane, West End and Woolloongabba.
We’d like to give a massive shout-out of gratitude to the crew from Chaos Magick Studios at Tanuki Lounge on Boundary St for coordinating all the recording, mixing and mastering, and also to Daniel Fournier for his help behind the scenes. Thanks also to Nell, Morgyn and Trina for helping choose the 12 featured artists. The beautiful album art is courtesy of Burgkaba.
Special thanks of course to all the contributing artists and bands: Kurilpa Reach, Bad Sext, Wheat Paste, Bricklayers, Kairos Twin, Machiniska, A Country Practice, Saateen, Sanfeliu, Cigany Weaver, Amy Jane and Lileth.
We'd like to acknowledge that this album was produced on the unceded sovereign lands of the Jagera and Turrbal peoples, and pay respects to their elders past and present.
Projects like this are important in celebrating the creative character and identity of our humble little corner of the world, but also serve as a historical record of the pandemic lockdown and the local music that came out of it. We’ve currently set the minimum download price at $10, but we think $20 is a fairer price for such a solid collection of tracks. All sales revenue goes back to the participating artists, so please be as generous as you can in supporting our local music scene!
